Steve shares what you should look for when hiring a flooring contractor.

1. Make sure they are certified
You can talk with a building inspector, who'll know which home renovation contractors routinely meet code requirements or pay a visit to your local flooring store, which sees contractors regularly and knows which ones buy quality materials and pay their bills on time.
2. Meet face to face
Make sure you meet with your contractor face to face to receive a quote. Quotes are largely based on factors such as sub floor condition, moisture, room size, etc., which is impossible to gauge over the phone.
3. Don't let price be your guide
Throw out the lowball bid. Beyond technical competence, comfort should play an equal or greater role in your decision. The single most important factor in choosing a contractor is how well you and them communicate.
